Achieving a Healthy Weight
Rather than listing all the new diets, the CDC takes a more conservative approach to teaching the best way to reach your target weight. The main excerpt under ‘Healthy Weight’ explains following fad diets is not the best method for losing weight. The most successful method is adopting long-term healthy eating practices, exercising regularly, and burning more calories than you eat and drink.
Healthy Eating for a Healthy Weight
The CDC website explains that choosing a healthy eating plan can be done by following the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020. They state a healthy eating plan:
- Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products
- Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts
- Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars
- Stays within your daily calorie needs
