Overview
MyPlate is an organization from the United States Department of Agriculture that helps promote healthy eating choices for Americans. The website is led by the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, or CNPP. At ChooseMyPlate visitors can read everything from recipes to legislative policy for eating healthy.
USDA Center for Policy and Promotion
The USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNNP) serves as the policy basis department for MyPlate. The CNNP was formed in 1994. It partners with the USDA Food and Nutrition Service as the USDA Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services. The CNPP has an objective to provide dietary guidelines for U.S. Citizens, promoted through MyPlate and nutrition and economic research.
MyPlate Kitchen
MyPlateKitchen is a section on ChooseMyPlate.com where citizens can find recipes through various meal prep resources. It was previously known as “What’s Cooking? USDA Mixing Bowl. ” The resources offered include recipes with nutritional analysis, specific equipment or cuisine groupings, price ranges, and ratings to see what others think.
MyPlate-inspired
The recipes all have certain guidelines for calculating calories, fat, etc. These guidelines are branded as being “MyPlate-inspired”. This generally means that the caloric calculations are conservative by not including additional, calorie-adding ingredients.
