Overview
The Obesity Society (TOS) uses a science-based approach to improving the lives of people who live with obesity. They create opportunities through membership, grants, and meetings. Researchers join together to raise awareness for the causes, consequences, treatment, and prevention of obesity. The organization lists three verbs after their slogan to summarize their approach: “Research. Education. Action.”
Membership
The Obesity Society invites scientific researchers and doctors to become members of their organization who have previously and want to continue working to support their cause. Researchers are invited to apply for fellowship. They list the processes for qualifying and applying for fellowship status on their website.
Grants
Grants are awarded by the obesity foundation to help fund research efforts in the field of obesity. The application process for potential grant contestants and the criteria for selecting grant winners are thoroughly outlined on the website. Currently, TOS offers two grants:
- Early Career Research Grant
- WW Karen-Miller-Kovach Research Grant
Meetings
The Obesity Foundation holds numerous meetings and conferences to discuss the advancements they’ve made in the field of obesity and exciting potential progress for the future. Those interested should contact the organization for a detailed list. TOS holds an international conference each year. This takes place during ObesityWeek, a week-long event where experts in obesity science, clinical interventions, and policy changes meet from all over the world.
