Overview
The Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America (WLSFA) is an organization that helps people with obesity by raising funds to help pay for weight loss surgery. Aside from fundraising, the WLSFA also works towards education, support, and awareness for those who live with obesity. While surgery is left up to the individual, the WLSFA mentions that it can be a necessary, life-saving procedure for some.
Conference
The WLSFA holds a national conference for interested persons to attend to discuss their goals of helping fund weight loss surgeries. On the website there is a FAQ for people to read who may have answers to common questions. The FAQs discloses that the conference is a 3 day, all-inclusive ticket purchase. It takes place at a resort where the resort fee is waived. Topics such as parking, dress code, and shuttle service is also explained.
Grants
The WLSFA offers a grant program to award recipients with the necessary funding for weight loss surgery. Testimonies from grateful beneficiaries can be found on the organization’s homepage. Under ‘Grants’, detailed explanations of the candidate qualifications and application process are thoroughly explained. They also explain the selection process for determining who will receive funding from the organization.
Stomp Out Obesity
The WLSFA holds a 5 kilometer race as a fundraising event. The Stomping Out Obesity 5k marathon will be taking place for the fourth year, while the fundraiser returns for its second year. The marathon is virtual, meaning it can be completed anywhere. It isn’t just limited to running. Participants are encouraged to complete the 5k anyway that they like including running, walking, skipping, using a treadmill, biking, and paddling.
